Mr. Gustavo Díaz, Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Chile in Chengdu, visited SWUST to grace the “From Friendship to Future Cooperation” educational and cultural exchange event between SWUST and Chilean universities, held at the School of Foreign Languages & Cultures on the morning of May 20th.
During his visit, Gustavo Díaz was briefed on the development of SWUST’s Spanish language program and its successful endeavors leveraging high-quality educational resources from Chile and other Spanish-speaking countries. These endeavors focus on talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage preservation and innovation, and international cooperation. The Consul General praised SWUST’s achievements in talent development, emphasizing that SWUST has consistently supplied highly skilled Spanish-speaking professionals to Chilean consulates and other diplomatic missions. Furthermore, he proposed the establishment of an international higher education alliance, the “Neruda Institute”, in collaboration with Latin American universities like the University of Santo Tomás in Chile. This initiative aims to create a new Spanish language assessment system, fostering enhanced cultural exchanges and cooperation between Latin America and China, thereby reinforcing the bonds of friendship between the two regions.
During the visit, Mr. Gustavo Díaz and his delegation visited the Sichuan Historical and Cultural Story Dissemination Base. Both sides also engaged in in-depth discussions on scholarship policies for student exchanges, the promotion, and international recognition of a newly developed Spanish language proficiency exam, and other topics.
