Recently, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education unveiled the list of the first batch of advanced courses approved for higher education institutions within the province. After a process involving institutional nominations, formal review, and evaluation, 121 courses were approved, with 8 SWUST courses included.
The advanced course initiative by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education aims to enhance the quality of core course construction in universities and focus on cultivating top innovative talents who meet the needs of modern industrial development. This construction revolves around addressing critical national strategic needs and fostering the development of six key industries in Sichuan: electronic information, equipment manufacturing, food and light textiles, energy and chemicals, advanced materials, and pharmaceutical health.
Since the initiation of the application process, our Academic Affairs Office has organized teachers from relevant academic units to submit their proposals guided by relevant directives. Multiple application seminars were held where experts provided guidance on policy interpretation, course construction, and feature refinement. This comprehensive support enabled teachers to carefully polish their courses and improve the quality of their submissions, building upon the foundation of existing top-tier course constructions.
Moving forward, SWUST will adhere to the directives of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, implementing tangible measures to bolster our approved courses in curriculum innovative systems, educational and pedagogical research, faculty development, and textbook system construction. Moreover, SWUST will proactively leverage the exemplary role set by these provincial-level advanced courses to steer the development of all core courses throughout the university to align with national strategic needs and regional economic development. This endeavor will entail exploring integrated models of science-education fusion, industry-education collaboration, and interdisciplinary curriculum construction and operational mechanisms, thereby enhancing the sophistication, innovativeness, and intellectual rigor inherent in our courses.
